lush life

...i find that although the darker and grittier visuals are more striking, many times the scenes of the "good" life are much more unsettling in the long run. That said, I'm enjoying the movement within these shots from February's trip to Florida.

preliminary space

Track 23

here's another glimpse into an unfinished work in progress. (There should be some more finished/polished pieces coming up in the next 2 months or so... stay tuned!) This is another rough mix from the 06/03 session at the Red Sun Soundroom of stuff that I was working on with the Boss BR8.

Here's to the creation of audio spaces, and to hearing the spaces that we're in. Contact me if you're interested in what some of these sounds actually are. I used live mic'ing (with the sm57) on this track more than most...

Also, I like heartbeat-like beats... or ones that are close enough to that to influence yours.

khatanga

Khatanga

this old favorite still tickles a special place in my brain every time. I get the same feelings of tingles and energy as when PK and I composed, recorded and manipulated it. Many, many fond memories of it's inception. (Samples include Stephane Grappelli, Morris Day, Meatball Fulton, and the BBC. Special thanks to DG for those little Radio Shack speakers I picked up from you.) I learned huge amounts with this piece, and am thankful to PK and the Red Sun Soundroom for the encouragement, pushing what could be done at the time, and the quality. I promise to post something more calm and soothing from my vaults in the near future...

chair consoles broken bench

after reading Geoff Dyer's The Ongoing Moment, in which he remarks about photos of benches and what they mean (the overall "benchness" of a bench's situation, and why we use them...), I came across this scene with a different attitude. These implements of sitting seemed to be conversing about their duties to our behinds, and like the elders that abound in Florida, seemed to be remembering shared pasts... at least that's what I saw...

poolside

more Florida, 02/06... Holga-style...

coiled rope

another from Florida.

flower child

this is a favorite photo of Alex on our recent trip to Florida. People spend lots of time and money with Photoshop and retouching and such to get photos to come out like this - the radial blur, with her face in perfect focus, the spontaneous moment, and composition... I suppose it could be cropped a bit here and there, but this is as it was taken...

trash fridge

Our neighbor was discarding this old fridge last winter/spring. When their visitor's rusted car was parked near by, I knew I only had one or two exposures left on the roll of color film I had loaded in the Holga, and that I had to use them. I may crop this one a little, but I think it captured the scene pretty well.

right to left

Right To Left

download this file (approx. 3MB) of craziness, and rock out with the fiercest growling drums and raw guitar that I could jostle out of the BR8 (and 424) at the time (probably 4 years ago or so)...

the title has to do with both the progression of sound from right to left channels, and from one's right to be left of center, so to speak, politically or otherwise... be afraid... be very very afraid... ooohhh....

(This rough mix was a part of a "live bounce-down session" held at the Red Sun Soundroom in June of '03 creating rough, on the fly mp3 mixes of these tracks I'd laid down previously.)

suburban dream

this classic was taken when Alex was about 2 months old, and we'd just moved to the 'burbs...

therefore I am

I blog, therefore I am. I'll post as frequently as I can. I'm open to comments and suggestions...
